On May 4, 2017, 35-year-old Heather Turner was found dead on her bathroom floor in Dallas, Georgia, with a single gunshot wound to the head. Days earlier, she had told a coworker she was leaving her husband, Andy Turner, that weekend. Her death was ruled undetermined, and for years, the people who loved her kept asking questions.

Then, in 2022, Heather’s case reached a national audience, and a surprise source came forward with something they say they saw just before her funeral…

In this episode of Crime Junkie, Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat continue examining the mysterious death of Heather Turner, from the evidence that divided her community to the investigation that officially closed her case.

You’ll hear about the steam still coming from the bathroom when deputies arrived, the five-word note found in a spiral-bound notebook, the blood on both of Heather’s hands, the four calls Andy made before he called 911, the moment on the 911 call that some believe is a confession, the funeral home director who says they saw a wound with no stippling or muzzle burn, and what they say they overheard Andy and his father, Curtis Turner, say at the viewing.

Then Andy told his side of the story. In 2023, he released his book. In it, he writes that Heather was never leaving her family, but some of his accounts don’t match the investigative records, including when his hands were tested for gunshot residue and whether responding EMTs saw blood on his face.

Then the case was closed. On February 20, 2026, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office announced its review with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation had concluded Heather died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheriff Ashley Henson acknowledged investigative mistakes were made, but said the evidence was clear: Heather’s gun, her DNA on the trigger, positive gunshot residue on her hands and a note in her handwriting. The Sheriff’s Office said the U.S. Secret Service analyzed the 911 call and found no evidence of a confession, and that luminol testing showed no sign the bathroom wall had been wiped clean.

Then the coroner made one more move. Paulding County Coroner Lindsey Eberhart Fuller, who ordered Heather’s autopsy in 2017, says the press conference left concerning questions unaddressed. She is not disputing the medical examiner’s findings, but she has called a coroner’s inquest so all of the evidence can be laid out in front of a jury. The inquest is set for January 2027. In a statement to 11Alive, Andy said his family is disappointed in the coroner.

This episode also includes Ashley’s conversation with Andy’s former fiancée, Christy Chupp, about the cycle of abuse she says she was trapped in, why she kept going back, the woman who helped her finally get out, and how she rebuilt her life. Just finished the extended interview with Christy Chupp and ASHLEY FLOWERS!! This made me cry. Thank you so much for including it. The way she explained him as the best type of love she had ever known at the same time knowing she couldn’t stay because of his abuse was so honest and real. I wish I had been able to put it into such words when I was trying to explain to my counselor why I needed the love of my husband despite the abuse that came as the cost. I’m proud to say he is now my ex. I found my escape and never looked back. But women need to hear this. They need to understand they are not crazy for feeling both things at once. I used to say “yeah the abuse hurts so bad, but the good feels sooo good” and it feels like youre picking between two evils. Leave and feel the pain of losing the greatest love you’ve ever known, or stay and keep the physical pain. Thank you Christy for sharing and thank you CJ for giving us all a voice even if its not our story. We see ourselves and we see others.

    34:29 I like how yall keep saying “Advocating for heather” as if accusing her husband is advocating for her 😂 crazy. Not one piece of evidence against the man and accusing him of killing the woman he loved more than anything is “advocating for heather” SMH

    44:31 She knew it was going to be a big deal and this case would be around for a long time? 😂 STFU! 😂 That’s the EXACT kind of quote the IMMEDIATELY lets me know someone’s full of shit 😂

    @iAmKiinngg

    53:51 Hell naw! 😂 You don’t get off that easy! That shit DUMB AS FUCK!! 😂 Same for a man! If a woman constantly puts her hands on her husband… beating him up or even just smacking him or getting in his face with that dumb “hit me! I dare you!!” Bs but yet he keeps going back to her? DUMB AF! And there’s absolutely no excuse for it! You put everyone around you in a position for doing that shit. And it’s just as selfish as the mf doing the hitting! You don’t care about nothing but that ONE person’s love to you… supposed love SMH That you don’t care who all gets hurt and who’s life gets wrecked by the toxicity of your relationship with the person!

    1:04:09 I love how yall play dumb or act like it’s damn near admitting guilt by people refusing to come on your videos 😂 Why tf would someone want to partake in your slandering them? Yall OBVIOUSLY had a side picked in this. Blantly had a horse in the race! Why would someone that is who you are basically making a video AGAINST even play this game with yall? Because I’m definitely starting to see that this is what these cases are to yall. Just a game. You can’t even speak in your normal voices and tones while making the videos! It’s an act. I wouldn’t be surprised if every piece we see was recorded 15 times and yall chose which yall thought looked the best. It’s definitely the furthest from an organic conversation. I wouldn’t even be as hard on yall if it was. Yall would just be saying what first came to mind without much thought. Initial reaction. But naw yall write this. Yall record this take after take. Yall choose a stance and you do your best to only hammer that one home. Yall made this longggggg video in CRAZY depth with twists and turns when it came to making that man look guilty but when it came to the part where you show the evidence making him innocent it might as well been a whisper compared to the “yelling at the mountain tops” yall just did when it was about making him look guilty! And what happens when the whole little court date with the coroner says that she 100000% killed herself and this case is over? Yall gonna make a video apologizing to that man? Hell naw! Because that won’t get views! AND THATS OK!! But don’t play like you care lol please don’t spit in our faces! You don’t give a damn about any of it! Other than the number it puts in the views column
