People say I’m not a “true Whovian” until I watch Classic Doctor Who — so here we go. In this first episode, I dive into William Hartnell’s The Time Meddler and see how it holds up today.

A few that I’d recommend are:
      – The Macra Terror (1967): this one is an animated recreation with the original audio. The Doctor, Ben, Polly and Jamie arrive at a human colony on another planet and are brainwashed. So far, my favourite classic story.
      – Black Orchid (1982): This is a pure historical set in the 1920s. Two parter with a murder mystery akin to The Unicorn and the Wasp.
      – Enlightenment (1984): Genuinely one of the most unique concepts in Classic Who from what I’ve seen. Two ships in space with near immortal creatures in a race. But this is the third story in a loose trilogy dealing with the Black and White Guardian (characters from S16) so I’d recommend watching Mawdryn Undead & Terminus first.

I love the Time Meddler! I think it’s one of Hartnell’s best stories. Some good ones to check out would be Spearhead from Space (3rd Doctor), Pyramids of Mars (4th), The Enemy of the World (2nd) and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy (7th).

Also, you can probably change your TV’s aspect ratio so that the image won’t look stretched. I’ve heard that some don’t let you do that, but every TV I’ve used has had that option (either a button on the remote or in the menu).

3rd Doctor, any of his stories with The Master. 4th Doctor, Pyramids of Mars, Genesis of the Daleks (that one you’ll see a reference to what would become the Time War in the opening minutes & the first intro of Davros, and the Doctor steps on a mine & isn’t there for an entire story), Seeds of Doom, Robots of Death, City of Death (yes, this era titles were thing-of-thing), Talons of Weng Chiang (so long as you can get past the it-was-the-70’s-so-they-have-a-white-actor-playing-a-chinese-character thing). 5th Doctor, Caves of Androzani, The 5 Doctors. 7th Doctor, pretty much any episode that was him with Ace. LOLs, did people phone in & complain about violence in Doctor Who? In the Tom Baker era, there was a woman named Mary Whitehouse who had a fair amount of clout & whinged incessantly about violence in Doctor Who, google it, it’s wild.

You get colour and better quality once you reach the Pertwee era…

Planet of the Daleks or The Time Warrior are interesting
Anything from Ark in Space to Invisible Enemy is worth a gamble. 😉

This is one of the first Who stories I saw on DVD back in the 90s! I still have most of my collection, even without any ways to really watch them.

For Doctor #2, I suggest ‘The Mind Robbers’, it is a delightful trip.

“I was definitely enjoying the episode more than my burger”

Then by all means, let’s focus more on the fast food.

If you want more Susan, you can find her in every serial PRIOR to Dalek Invasion of Earth.

so basically you have An Unearthly Child, The Daleks, Marco Polo (missing), The Keys of Marinus, The Aztecs, The Sensorites, The Reign of Terror, and Planet of Giants if you want more Susan

14:09 He returns at one point in The Daleks’ Master Plan! He’s actually the first individual villain to return in the entire series!

I’m trying to watch hartnell all the way to ncuti before the 2026 Christmas special so I can catch up but I have almost finished season 1 when I only started last week. (But I’ve already seen 9, 10, 11, 14 and 15 but I’m currently watching 12 with my dad as I watch hartnell on my own but I will watch Jodie soon)
