The TARDIS brings the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough to the English village of Little Hodcombe in 1984, where an alien war machine is lurking in the local church. Mock war games reconstructing the English Civil War become dangerously real, as Sir George Hutchinson begins to lose his mind, under the telepathic influence of the Malus, an evil creature entombed in the local Church since the Civil War! Tegan is forced to become the Queen of the May and is horrified when she discovers the Queen’s traditional fate to be burned alive!

I always wished Will would have stayed on in the TARDIS…nice kind of vibe between 5 and him, very 2nd Doc and Jamie…
I thought so, too. Will even looks a bit like Frazer Hines.
Will does seem like a peek into an alternate timeline where Adric and the 5th Doctor got along better, and he was given more of a unique role.
Davison episodes were still good. Scripts went downhill after him. Tegan gets the award for running in heels,and it is hereby retired.
It would have been nice to have included Will as a companion. Kind of reminiscent of the 2nd Dr and Jamie.

“I’m being bullied! Coerced! Forced against my will! I’ve had enough for one day!” I love this line and the way Davison delivers it.
The biggest twist in this story is that Tegan wants to visit one of her family members and that relative DOESN’T get gruesomely murdered by aliens!
In fact, after the absolute massacre just last episode in Warriors of the Deep, it’s refreshing to only have two onscreen deaths and no gratuitous bystander kills.
Turlough sat in a can of Jeyes Fluid, a noxious compound used to cleanse drains, kill moss, disinfect animals and who knows what all anymore. They say the modern version is biodegradable, but the original was based on coal tar and animal fat emoluments:
“The original formula of Jeyes Fluid, patented in 1877, was based on coal tar, specifically utilizing creosote and other phenolic compounds to create a potent disinfectant. This high-phenolic, coal-tar-based, and heavily aromatic composition was renowned for its effective but pungent antiseptic and cleaning qualities.”
