Several officers who responded to the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk testified during Tyler Robinson’s preliminary hearing on Monday. Robinson is accused of fatally shooting Kirk in September 2025. One of the witnesses, a former Utah Valley University police officer, described what he saw after hearing the gunshot that killed Kirk. He also testified that investigators did not find any shell casings on the rooftop where prosecutors allege Robinson fired the fatal shot. Closing arguments in the case against Blaise Taylor began on Wednesday. He is accused of secretly poisoning his pregnant girlfriend, Jade Benning, at her apartment in February 2023, causing the deaths of both Benning and her five-month-old unborn child. Prosecutors allege Taylor intentionally put cocaine in Jade’s drink to kill her baby, claiming the drug is known to cause spontaneous abortions. The defense argues the deaths were a tragic incident, not murder, and urged jurors to find Taylor not guilty. A Michigan father was forced to face the son who survived his deadly rampage during an emotional sentencing hearing. After pleading guilty to shooting three of his children and killing his 17-year-old son, Jeffery Smerer listened as his surviving son confronted him in court, saying, “You deserve life plus more. Samuel Bateman, who is already serving 50 years in prison after being convicted of federal charges involving the transportation of a minor for sexual activity, took the stand in his own defense. Bateman faced state child abuse charges after girls were found in an unventilated trailer he was hauling through Arizona.
