South Florida developer George Pino is charged with vessel homicide and manslaughter in a 2022 boat crash that killed 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez and left another teen permanently disabled. Prosecutors allege Pino was operating the boat when it slammed into a channel marker near Boca Chita Key, while the defense argues the crash was a tragic accident and that there is insufficient evidence to support the charges. Former IRS law enforcement officer Brendan Banfield has been convicted in a case that prosecutors say began with a secret online arrangement and ended in the deaths of his wife, Christine Banfield, and another man, Joseph Ryan. Earlier this week, Tien Hawkins was sentenced to five years behind bars for her actions in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Lilith. Tien spoke at her sentencing, stating that she loved her kids and that if she had known what was happening to them, she wouldn’t have let it go as far as it did.
