A beautiful image from the Webb telescope shows rings of hydrogen gas and dust that has erupted from the larger star in this binary system each time it passes close by its companion. Surrounded by the gaseous rings is a Wolf-Rayet star known as WR140.

well, there are some dead galaxies that have an even smaller number of stars i would hate to be in one of those good thing I’m in a galaxy that is known for its star population
Yes , I came here to say the same thing.
Curious if the ripples are magnetic/gravitational forces pushing and pulling the stars away from each other.
Something I never thought about up until watching this for some reason. Small thing, but looking at photos I forget that what we’re looking at isn’t some flat object in space. It’s weird to picture a rippling ball of gas essentially just happening out there.
