What’s Behind This Webb Image? 0 (0)

One of the most dazzling images from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is this image of a distant extreme star system surrounded by surreal concentric geometric rings. The binary star is called WR140. Author: Peter Tuthill (Astrophysicist, University of Sydney) Republished from an article by The Conversation with permission from Peter Tuthill. Webb Telescope Captured Some Unusual Rings 0 (0)

A beautiful image from the Webb telescope shows rings of hydrogen gas and dust that has erupted from the larger star in this binary system each time it passes close by its companion. Surrounded by the gaseous rings is a Wolf-Rayet star known as WR140.
