Before the “Star-Spangled Banner” began, there were brief chants of USA! USA!
President Donald Trump and a number of administration officials have arrived at a box in Madison Square Garden. Trump is joined by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and his granddaughter Kai Trump, as well as US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, were also spotted in the box.
But that patriotic fervor did not extend to greeting the president. A shot of President Donald Trump on the in-arena Jumbotron during the anthem elicited tremendous boos – and scant other reaction, if any at all from the New York crowd. Louder, even, than the boos rained down upon the San Antonio Spurs when they took the court.
As soon as the anthem concluded, the crowd reverted to cheering, “Go Knicks!”
