Donald Trump’s brief and aggressive attempt to corral an international coalition to police the Strait of Hormuz concluded in disappointment on Tuesday, leading the president to lash out at European nations that rejected his demands to help with his war against Iran. “We don’t need too much help,” a frustrated Trump said in the Oval Office, where he was hosting Ireland’s taoiseach for St. Patrick’s Day. “We don’t need any help actually.”

The U.S. is succumbing to some of the same imperial temptations with Iran that Britain did with its missions in Asia in the 20th century says CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, who joins Anderson Cooper to discuss his recent op-ed. Former Trump National Security adviser John Bolton also weighs in, claiming Trump was aware of potential ramifications in choosing to strike Iran.

Have you ever thought about how different the news you give people is from reality? I always wondered how long some Americans can follow lies. Don’t you think they should be honest with the people? The American people will find out sooner or later what’s going on.

How does it feel to march into battle for an adjudicated sexual offender and a 34-time felon who shields pedophiles, a draft-dodging coward? Trump referred to our esteemed military personnel as “suckers and losers.” My inquiry to our military leaders is, are you truly “Trump’s, suckers, and losers?”

It’s true that it has consequences in the short term to take a stand against Trump from a European perspective, but what you all seem to miss here is the fact that it will also push the EU and a ton of other countries to set up something new, something better. The US has proven it is not a trustworthy partner under this administration and while there might be a new president at some point that will search to mend that broken trust, once there will be a new administration after that, it can be a whole other story. I feel the US has shot itself in the foot to create that break of trust in the long run and will become less powerful in the coming years. If you don’t consult allies and don’t even let them know what is happening, how can you expect that they all willingly step into an unnecessary war that will have no benefits, it has proven to be nothing but negative and it doesn’t look that will improve.
