@shaundacartwright1288 You have no idea what you’re talking about. In the 1st place, the majority of Taylor’s fans are adults. Her fans are EVERY generation babies to 90+. It’s so ludicrous when you lose your mind over anyone buying Taylor’s music. Doi you need that salt & pepper collection you’ve invested so much in? What about all the kitchen utensils and numerous Shark & Ninja products you just have to have? Of the Apple watch or latest smart phone or speakers or headphones or chargers or tablet or new laptop. Or the new car you want to buy or the cruise you want to go on or the new clothes you don’t really need. Taylor’s most recent album costs all of $13 for a cd. OMG, you’re going to go broke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You spend more than that for one stop at Starbucks in the morning. A vinyl is $30. These are NOT expensive items. Women and girls buy shoes and clothes and jewelry and makeup. You can’t go to a department store and buy anything in the Cosmetic Dept for $13 or even $30. Cetaphil face wash at Walmart is $12. You’re worried about “all those young girls” spending $1 more to have an album they’ll listen to – literally their entire lives for barely more than a face wash that lasts a month or two. If you’re really poor and struggling to put food on the table, Spotify has a free membership, so you don’t HAVE to buy an album. And most fans are adults with jobs, so they can choose for themselves what they buy!!!!!

As for Taylor re-recording her albums – #1 she’s not the 1st person who’s done it. Kelly Clarkson actually gave Taylor the idea. #2 you’re obviously implying there’s something wrong with it. It’s a huge lesson for both young and old to stand up for yourself and to fight for what you believe in and also for what’s right. Taylor wasn’t told at 15 when she signed her recording contract that she was giving away her rights to her masters. Her parents hired a highly recommended Nashville music atty and he didn’t tell any of them. As soon as Taylor found out, she aggressively saved her money and asked over and over and over to buy her masters from Scott Borchetta. He kept refusing and telling her to wait. When her contract was finally ending in 2018, she’d never been allowed to buy her masters so she left for another record label. She was devastated to leave her masters behind.

I won’t go into all the details, but Scott then sold his label (which owned Taylor’s masters) to Scooter Braun who had bullied Taylor for years and tried to destroy her career. It was the worst betrayal. Scooter & Scott started manipulating Taylor, tried to silence her, refused to let her perform any of her original albums even when she was named Artist of the Decade, they refused to let her perform her music. Since it became clear Taylor wasn’t going to be able to buy her albums from Scooter, she decided to take Kelly Clarkson’s suggestion and re-record her albums. It was mostly for her mental health because she had no idea if anyone would buy them. But when they did, it began the process of devaluing Taylor’s original masters because fans only bought the rerecorded versions. Any “young girls” had never owned the originals, so NO they weren’t buying the same album.

What you also clearly don’t understand is that the rerecordings have Taylor’s more mature voice and have updated production so they sound different. ALSO, Taylor included a number of “vault” songs on each rerecord, so fans were also getting NEW music not on the original albums. So, the rerecorded albums were definitely a great purchase and value for fans. Once again, a cd is around $13 whole dollars and they’re getting new music along with a rerecorded version of the original albums. You should see all the fans online who are absolutely DYING to buy Taylor’s rerecorded version of her debut album that was initially dropped almost 20 years ago in October 2006. They’re also dying to purchase the vault tracks for Reputation that Taylor has ready to release. Nobody is forcing fans to buy. Nobody forces YOU to buy the things you buy. You could just live off of 30 cent top ramen for meals. You don’t HAVE to buy hamburger or chicken and all the fixings. That’s your CHOICE.

Taylor has done incredible things since she moved to a new label. She negotiated into her contract that if the label sold any of their shares of Spotify, they would immediately share that with ALL their artists AND they had to pay the artists directly and NOT use those funds towards any debt the artists had to the label. This actually played out a few months ago and tons of artists got checks they would NEVER have gotten without Taylor advocating for ALL artists. Her rerecording project has caused so many artists to reconsider their masters and try to purchase them OR new artists are negotiating their original recording contracts to include owning their own masters either immediately or within a set number of years. Those are sweeping changes that lifts and benefits all artists.

So next time you go to write a snarky, ignorant comment about something you clearly know nothing about – why don’t you act like a real adult and do some legitimate research. Not the maga LIES on Facebook, but in this case reading the various comments and Instagram posts Taylor has made over the years on what happened to her, doing some search engine searches and reading articles updating you on Taylor’s label recently selling some of their Spotify stock and what a huge difference it’s making to their artists. You might also look into the Beatles’ story of losing THEIR masters and how hard Paul McCartney tried to buy the masters and lost out to Michael Jackson. Look up your favorite artists and whether they own their own music and what struggles they’ve had!!

Maybe it’s hard for you to understand what it’s like to spend so many years building your skills to be able to play instruments, compose music, write lyrics, and produce albums. All of the work that goes into creating albums is soooo extensive. That music is very similar to having a child. It’s your blood, sweat and tears. It’s all your work. In Taylor’s case her masters included all her music videos which for the most part SHE had financed. It included very personal items and photos and someone else owned all of that. And someone else’s children were going to inherit her masters. That’s why it continued to be a heartbreak for her and such a huge emotional moment when she was finally able to buy her masters from the Roy Disney Family trust, Shamrock Equities.

NOBODY is forced to buy anything. Target has all kinds of fun things offered around their stores – but it’s always up to the consumer to decide what they can afford. Taylor didn’t make anyone buy her music. She made it and offered it for sale. She’s got a billion fans worldwide. THEY get to decide what they choose to buy – not you. But the next time you spend $13 on takeout or coffee or those pastries at Walmart – remember that you’re making a choice. And no one has the right to tell you what you can and can’t buy.

Oh, and by the way – I’m a 70 y/o fan of Taylor’s from the start of her career. There are a ton of over 50 fans – and we get to choose how we spend our money too! Many seniors bought tickets to the Eras Tour and flew across the world to go see her in other countries. If you actually listened to Taylor’s music, you might learn some things. She’s an incredible talent and an incredible role model to people of ALL ages!!

You may love her and think she’s the best, many others don’t agree. I’m not denying she has some talent. There are just many equally and more talented singers and songwriters that don’t get the attention she does or have a cult following.
