As testimony continues in the Track Meet Tragedy trial, Court TV’s Cody Thomas reports from inside the courthouse, where a school resource officer’s bodycam showed Karmelo Anthony saying, “He put his hands on me, I told him no to.” In addition to bodycam footage, the jury was shown the 5-inch blade that was allegedly used to fatally stab Metcalf. Karmelo Anthony, 19, is currently on trial in the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The teens were attending a regional track meet in Frisco, Texas, when Metcalf reportedly told Anthony to leave their team’s tent. Prosecutors allege the confrontation escalated, leading Anthony to stab Metcalf in the chest with a knife before later turning himself in to authorities. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder and is being tried as an adult. He has pleaded not guilty and claims he acted in self-defense. If convicted, he faces five to 99 years in prison. Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines is expected back in court Friday for a status and motions hearing as he prepares to face trial in one of Kentucky’s most shocking murder cases. A small courthouse in Letcher County became the scene of an execution-style killing when Stines was captured on surveillance video walking into a judge’s chambers and allegedly gunning down Circuit Judge Kevin Mullins.
