MANILA, Philippines –The impeachment trial of Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte enters Day 9, with the impeachment court continuing its examination of Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment, which alleges assassination plot, grave threats, and inciting to sedition against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
During today’s proceedings, Sara Duterte’s defense team will continue its cross-examination of NBI Director Melvin Matibag, after the court approved a continuance requested by the defense. The questioning is expected to reference new documents, including the statement of alleged DDS hitman Arturo Lascañas.
Matibag is expected to defend the National Bureau of Investigation’s findings, maintaining that any threat to President Marcos constitutes a matter of national security. He has also argued that Duterte’s remarks amounted to more than a threat, describing them as a “confession.”
