from what i heard from chinese news source, the first group of rescue team arrived the gyirong port by foot, traveling through rugged mountains and valleys for many days; due to the chaotic airflow in the high mountains and deep canyons near the port, it was very difficult for helicopters to arrive.
This is a border of Chinese occupied Tibet and Nepal.
