Behind the glitter of towers and brand deals lay a grift: foundations dissolved for theft, sham universities settled for millions, campaign coffers funneled into private empires, and hotels that charged foreign states to brush shoulders with power. Courts peeled back the gilding to reveal systematic financial fraud, judgments for sexual abuse and defamation, and criminal indictments for stolen secrets and attempts to overturn an election—each verdict another chisel blow at the façade. Institutions creaked as he bullied intelligence agencies, urged officials to “find votes,” and egged on a mob that stormed the Capitol; witnesses were vilified, allies sacrificed, and dissent met with calls for punishment. Contractors unpaid, workers abandoned, failed brands paraded as triumphs—his business life was ruin dressed as victory.
