Paris Jackson revealed she underwent electroconvulsive therapy — a medical treatment passing a small electric current through the brain to trigger a brief, controlled seizure as an alternative to prescription antidepressants— while battling severe depression. The 28-year-old opened up on the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast, sharing she did nine ECT sessions over three weeks after coming ‘very, very close’ to another suicide attempt. The cover of her upcoming album, ‘HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE,’ out Aug. 21, depicts Paris getting electroconvulsive therapy.

Pretty sure that just like with anti depressants, doctors have no idea what that really does to your brain.
My aunt had that done back in the 1950’s, and it didn’t help her at all. What is it supposed to do exactly? Make people forget why they’re upset or depressed?
@ForeverMPH
Like I mentioned, doctors really have no idea what it does to your brain and they admit it. This is a warning I read by many psychiatrists and scientists while doing research. They probably think that they can shock your brain to establish a more stable pattern but really a shock to you brain is an injury to your brain. Sometimes a blood panel with a naturopath can detect if there’s any vitamin or mineral deficiencies causing a problem.
@bluu1394 I agree. It seems like it would injure the brain.
I wish her to take good care of herself., and her mental health. To protect herself from the sharks of this dirty industry. That she learns from her father’s mistakes who was a vulnerable, insecure, fragile, troubled man who trusted the wrong people and didn’t know how to say NO (:when for example parents of sick children wanted gifts from him for their kids, non-stop). He didn’t know how to put limits so souless malevolent people did bad deeds against him. I wish for her to be strong and solid as long as possible. This world is dark & cold. There’s a lot of opportunists who wants to take advantage of you when you are famous, wealthy, the daughter of, successful, pretty, wherever.. I wish her to be happy, healthy and strong when she has to face struggles. Bobby Kristina also suffered tremendously in her position. No one really cared for her and who she was. She needed this support system and look where it led her. Rip Christina.
I underwent 7 “shocks” over a 2 week period. They don’t “electrocute” you. The shock is mild, targeted, and only sufficient to cause a Grand Mal seizure which causes no movement whatsoever.
The only pain/discomfort I felt with this procedure was the mild burning sensation when the anesthesia was introduced into the back of my hand. The ECT prevented my 5th episode of severe depression. My episodes typically take me down for 6 months, severe anxiety, weight loss, suicidal ideation and insomnia, and it takes approximately 18 months to recover. I had a major episode on intervals of 8 years for my entire life, until I had the ECT. That’s 16 years of intense suffering over a 40 year period. That is barely survivable. I have not had an episode over the previous 12 years and my quality of life is much improved. Best decision I ever made. The NIMH says ECT is the most effective treatment for severe depression, and I agree.
Thank you for sharing your journey God bless you!
I’m glad that you’re feeling better, but what exactly does the ECT do to treat depression? Does it change the chemicals in your brain or make you forget? I’m just curious.
No one knows. I didn’t suffer any memory loss, though there is much I’d like to forget.
In molecular biology we have something called epigenetic switching that occurs in our brain DNA. Google “epigenetic switching and major depression.” If nothing else, you will get a sense of how complicated things are in the brain. I believe the Grand Mal seizures induced by ECT can reset switches back to factory defaults. ECT is no big deal. Many prefer it to pharmaceuticals. It is quick acting, highly effective and some people have routine ECT maintenance on an outpaitent basis. Don’t hang yourself before giving it a try.
@williammiller-p3o Thanks for the information. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. I don’t suffer from depression, but know several people who do and they seem to have no improvement with meds. I’ll pass this on to them. Thanks again, and I hope that you continue to feel better.
@ForeverMPH If you know of any military veterans who suffer from acute depression, make sure they are aware of the Compact Act. The COMPACT Act (Comprehensive Prevention, Access to Care, and Treatment Act) is a U.S. law that provides free, immediate emergency suicide care and stabilizing mental health treatment at any VA or non-VA facility for qualifying former service members in an acute crisis. I believe it went into effect in January 2023, and 6 months later my area VA Medical Facility pretended to be unaware of it because they didn’t know who to charge for providing the care. 30 days in hospital and 90 days outpatient (minimum) at no cost to the veteran. I had my Senator straighten them out. 17 Veterans commit suicide every day and have since at least 2000. The VA is trying to impact that stat by taking 2nd amendment rights away in conjunction with mental health treatment, so tread carefully.
Terrible moment for her. 😢😢
The AI graphic in the still to show Paris in shock therapy was unnecessary and appalling
It’s actually a real photo taken by her friend. It’s the cover of her album which was released today 🙂
That’s her album cover, that’s not AI. Stop acting like a fool, you make the rest of us look bad fool
Thank God she stoped with this shocks, that is not the solution… lose your memory, put your brain in risck…. go to therapy it’s enough
Shes got all the money still depressed
