It must have made a difference! The Five Doctors has the highest production values of the original series.
It also, inexplicably, premered in Chicago IL. The BBC showed it on November 25, showing where their priorities were. (When did Australia show it?)

In the Masque of Mandragora it is explained how people speaking different languages can understand each other. It has to do with the TARDIS.
The whole point of classic cult TV is to be low budget and laughably implausible. Katy Manning said because sfx were so limited both scriptwriters and cast members had to work very well together to compensate for it. Japanese Action TV evolved at same time and always ended up in same blasted quarries. But that’s the charm up until 1984ish. Today production is much better done but the cast doesn’t make stories live as well IMHO. But I don’t expect others to agree with me.
