Hi, this is Yousur Al-Hlou and I’m a visual reporter with The New York Times. I produced this short documentary with Masha Froliak, and alongside our editor, Ben Laffin and the senior producer, Hanaan Sarhan.
For one week, Masha and I embedded in a military field hospital in the Donetsk region to capture the relentless toll of Russia’s war. Every day, wounded Ukrainian soldiers are rushed onto operating tables by combat medics who are racing to save their lives.

What other testimonials/evidence have you come across specifically of war crimes committed? Either expressed by Ukr. soldiers, or by Rus. POWs you’ve treated, or that you’ve seen/heard firsthand???
I wish someone could hack Russian state TV and show this so Russians would know what they are doing to the Ukrainian people. Maybe then the Russian people will realize “Russophobe” is the wrong word. Ukrainians and their allies aren’t afraid of Russians. Instead, they have come to hate Russians.
Just like the Holdomor, people will remember what Russia has done for generations. Mini documentaries like this one will help Ukrainian children and grandchildren understand what sacrifices were made so they could live a free, peaceful life.

I wish the leaders of ever country could really understand what the cost of there wars are. They don’t care. The ppl sending men and women to war. All they care about is about in power and money. None of the ppl pulling the strings are dying. Meanwhile the ppl who are dying as ppl like you and me who could care less about their worthless cause. There are literal family trees going extinct.
As for the pow, it’s not his fault. He doesn’t have a choice. Go to War or go to jail…
