Montano’s performance is the first to bring soca, the high energy dance music of the Caribbean, to the Tiny Desk. 30 years on from its release on the iconic Strictly Rhythm, Barbara Tucker shares the story behind one of house music’s most loved vocal hits, ‘Beautiful People’. Written by Tucker, alongside India and Lem Springsteen, the track was produced by Louie Vega and Kenny Dope. Vega used the vocal loop for his Hardrive project, culminating in ‘Deep Inside’ in ’93.
