The DVD was a late release, personally I wouldnt be surprised if this has some form of AI restoration done and the blu ray is more of the same.

@6sek i disagree, there is an elements of “restoration” within AI, but hey thats your opinion, i would personally stick to the DVD’s for future viewing.
It’s not restoration, there’s no actual restoration going on, it’s just dumped into a AI program which artificially Upscales it
@6sek again that’s your opinion, there is lots that AI can do and has done for restoration, not just dumped into a program and then upscaled, as I say stick to the DVD”s if you are unhappy with the Blu Ray’s, they are not compulsory viewing, this is standard definition material, not sure exactly what you are expecting.

They could’ve used FFMPEG to clean it instead… its not AI, it works on computational power… dumb decision of them to use AI
But synthesizing completely new frames that were never in the episode in order to restore the video look by using the vidfire software is completely okay? They’ve been doing that since the very beginning of the DVD range. How is that any different? It isn’t. You are the dumb one.
I sent my box set back to HMV. I find it odd that whoever sanctioned this abomination at the BBC did this to the one season that truly mattered. Coincidence or deliberate? Take your pick. Season 7 had a little bit of AI added. But this is horrific. Justifying this level of interference is just unjustifiable.
Since the beginning of Doctor Who DVD releases, the restoration team has been using software called vidfire to restore the video look to archival episodes. So basically, you’re okay with vidfire synthesizing completely new frames between existing frames, but you’re not okay with AI synthesizing a few pixels to help increase the resolution. That’s because you’re an outraged idiot with AI derangement syndrome.
