While I love Rita Hayworth and utterly empathize with the horrors she suffered on her rise to stardom, I don’t think the electrolysis she underwent to raise her hairline (IMHO a vast improvement) count among the indignities she suffered. Nor was her hair “permanently dyed.” Rita could have said no at any time, many stars did. When first signed to a Hollywood contract, the studio dictated she pluck her eyebrows, she refused and eventually created a new trend. Gene Tierney had it put in her first contract that the studio could alter her overbite. There are dozens of similar stories, but young players are vulnerable and get pushed in directions they’re uncomfortable with, but ultimately the decision rests with them.
