I think you should be a video on the failure of the “Pantheon” and how it could’ve been handled better. My perspective is that they should’ve been a much more Lovecraftian style monster, Not jokey and silly but dark and overwhelming. Like how The Shadows were treated in Babylon 5 or how the Borg were when they were first introduced into Star Trek. It’s how the Weeping Angels were in Blink, you never had a chance of defeating them, you could only hope to survive them and even then for how long? Another idea is a Doctor light story where a companion has to go up against a Dalek on their own and figure out how to stop it, That would go a long way to making the Daleks a terrifying enemy again.

This a truly wonderful video, and I agree wholeheartedly. It is good to see that you rightly appreciate Liz Shaw. I have always thought that she was a underappreciated character. Incidentally, in ine if your videos you discuss the endings of certain TV shows. The ending of Blake’s 7 in 1981 is even better than the ending of The Sopranos! Keep making these entertaining videos!

Honestly, as I was watching this, I realized that the Chibnall era felt a lot like it was trying to get back to Classic Who. It included a lot of one-off stories that were basically independent of each other, featuring a large team that got at least a decent amount of character work, and instead of dying horribly or being exiled to another universe, the companions just realized it was their time to leave. Ryan wanted to get back to his home life, and Graham had to leave as well to make sure he was okay. Dan had a near-death encounter and realized that he wanted to leave while he could. Yaz left when her Doctor did. It also had a decent amount of completely-unsubtle political episodes, like Classic Who did. The episodes tended to be a bit slower and more methodical. And of course, the Flux was New Who’s only true serial.
Did it succeed in every aspect? No, but it really feels like Chibnall was inspired by Classic Who and wanted to see how he could adapt the modern format to be more like the older one.
If you find that an intriguing proposition, would you consider making a video that examines the Thirteenth Doctor’s Era from the lens of if it was Classic Who?

I’d have to think a bit, but there are a number of Classic Who stories that blew my mind as a young child.
Pertwee in the “The Silurians”, wearing a lab coat and looking down a microscope as he sought to cure the plague: Showing that science/ intellect can be heroic.
In the “Leisure Hive”, Romana “solving the wave equations in four dimensions”, again sent me on a decades-long quest to find out what this meant and trying to learn how to do it myself.
(There are lots of similar examples, but I forget them at present. Will revisit this post!)

The Empty Child (Mummy) is a great example of a new ep thats more classic feeling (IMO). The best Who to me is when saving a child is as important to the Doctor as saving the universe.
3 ideas? Hmm. Whats the differences and whats the ‘best’ sonic screw driver? TARDIS? (Heck you could do a vid on each TARDIS). Perhaps speaking on how it shifted form a home and a beloved ship into the sentient thing it is now. A topic I like is why Tom Baker offered everyone Jelly babies.

I started with 2005 doctor who reboot, but once I went back to classic from start to finish I came to the conclusion that classic who is much much better.

Also Marco Polo is still one of the best episodes of all time, despite the whole thing being lost and reconstructed with photographs and set shots. 7 episodes as the TARDIS crew travel across China having been captured by Marco Polo and being hunted by a mongol warlord.

I had my childhood without Doctor Who – both new and classic.
When I tried to watch new Doctor Who, it was… quirky. Like, too much british humour, annoying basic orchestral soundtrack with violin all the time, and plots of 9th and 10th Doctors were “meh” to me. Also I started to hate that modern effects that makes everything cinematic, but lifeless? Like, it’s too good to actually FEEL the scene, the moment. I couldn’t take Rose &Doctor romance seriously because of it.

But when I started from classic 7th Doctor, I enjoyed it. It was funny and serious at the same time. It has so much soul, passion in stories in it.
Yes, decorations and effects obviously show to you that it’s all fake, but…once you accept it, try to get into the scenes, immerse in it, it becomes such a good, extraordinary experience.
It’s easier to watch all episodes as theatrical pieces, not like movies or series. I must say, all actors in classic Who did brilliant job to express an alien, but human-ish being, intelligent but chaotic, but serious at times.
I feel like modern Who just forgot that chaotic type characters (such as The Doctor) shouldn’t be clowns almost 24/7? I felt in classic Who much more chaos energy because he was more serious in his motivations and actions, but the outcomes of actions were often not what he expected to happen. It’s much more interesting to observe Doctor’s personality in classic cse his motives actually more believable then in modern Who, AND this motives still weird and alien-ish.
