For this and so many other scenes that it doesn’t make any sense for Liza and Charles not to be together. She makes it clear that she loves him, she just didn’t want to get married at that moment, and the authors ended up with Charles’s personality, ok for him to be upset, but he wouldn’t be fair with Quinn to forget Liza.
For me, Charles could have gone on the retreat to write the book, Liza could have been the editor of Empirical and they could have been together, it would have made more sense. My perfect ending! ❤
Charles never really deserved Liza.
Yes, he sacrificed his company, but that doesn’t give him the right to try to control her life or pressure her into marriage. The way he broke up with her and then quickly jumped into another relationship — with Quinn of all people — was disappointing. Worst of all, he could never truly let go of her past. He treated her like a criminal for lying, even though she did it to protect her daughter and create a better life.
Josh was the one who always got her.
He accepted Liza for exactly who she is, without conditions. He was ready to fight for her and love her without trying to change her. I’m honestly glad she closed the Charles chapter and started fresh with Josh.

I think Quinn and Charles are made for each other. Both controlling and focused on business. Charles is a pretty fair boss but privately he is not much different. There is nothing deep and real in his relationships. He is giving but his business comes first. So, I am happy she does not end up with Charles but wish they spent a little more time on giving it a happy ending. Afterall, the viewers deserved that. What is the point of this whole series just going through her life and finishing with an open ending?
