#UPRIGHT star/executive producer/co-writer/composer Tim Minchin and guest moderator Judd Apatow discuss music, comedy, and storytelling in a one-on-one conversation about the acclaimed Australian series.

AMC Networks’ streaming service Sundance Now features the exclusive U.S. Premiere of the highly anticipated and award-worthy Australian drama UPRIGHT beginning Thursday, August 6, 2020. The eight-part series is co-written, executive produced, composed by and starring internationally renowned Australian actor, comedian and musician Tim Minchin (Robin Hood, Californication, Matilda the Musical), and the Casting Guild of Australia’s 2018 Rising Star Award recipient Milly Alcock (A Place to Call Home). Called “addictively good” by The Guardian, UPRIGHT revolves around a shabby musician (Minchin) who has to drive across Australia with nothing but a piano, and finds his baggage soon increased when a runaway girl (Alcock) comes into his life.

So glad this was uploaded! Heaps of things which I hadn’t heard Minchin discuss before; being able to channel pain into something which could then help to pull you out off it, absolutely speaks to me. Good luck with screening in the States!

Brilliant series, watched it straight through and got totally involved in it.
The last programme was so beautifully done I was in tears, Missy was so fresh, raw and genuine she was believable in every sense, a perfect companion to your anxiety riddled character.
This interview explained a few things more clearly and I think I’m going to re-watch it all again. Thanks Tim for a most poignant and hilarious series. X

Pretty much everyone who has a fondness for movies & TV series has one favorite. One that you can truly watch a thousand times and never tire of it. I’m not a spring chicken, and for the longest time, mine was the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice. I think this might be replacing that. I’ve watched Upright three times already. It is just a sweet but also rough-and-tumble little slice of life in Australia. Tim, of course, is just fiery-red perfection (and there are scenes that rival watching Mr. Darcy come out of the pond in his soaking wet shirt) and Milly will steal your heart. She takes no crap but has a heart of gold. 10/10. The only fault is that there’s only two seasons.
