Produce supplier Taylor Farms is recalling iceberg lettuce shipped to 27 US states because of potential contamination with cyclospora, the parasite causing thousands of cases of diarrhea across the country.

The company said it’s “actively removing” the products, has suspended distribution of iceberg lettuce from Central Mexico to the United States and is no longer receiving products from the implicated lot.

      📰 As soon as Michigan detected the first sign of cyclosporiasis cases in late June, health officials swung into action, notifying federal agencies and releasing a notice on 1 July ahead of the holiday weekend alerting home cooks and commercial kitchens alike to the risks of potentially contaminated produce. They worked through the holiday weekend and haven’t had a day off since.

      Even so, cyclosporiasis can take weeks to appear, which means officials in Michigan can’t tell yet whether their warnings have helped.

      And the outbreak is spiraling amid sharp funding cuts to state and local public health departments after decades of chronic underinvestment.

      State and local health departments have suffered layoffs and hiring freezes amid funding delays, cuts and uncertainty, while federal agencies like the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have hemorrhaged staff and expertise under the second Trump administration.

      @cashaeleatemla FDA and CDC were overstaffed in the administrative departments and understaffed in the frontline inspectors. But cuts needed to be made.

      Trace back alone takes 3-4 weeks for any foodborne illness outbreak. I’ve tracked small and large outbreaks for decades as it’s a part of my job. They’re right on track as far as timing. It’s disgusting how poor journalism is and they’re spinning this off as political when it’s not and nothing has changed timing wise compared to other foodborne illness outbreaks.

    Such odd behavior to use domestic government funds to improve the foreign products being imported in competition with domestic production at great expense to USA taxpayers! Then complain about affordability of food at same time as complaining about lack of government oversight of cheaper imported foreign products.

    @musicgram08

    Where is the analysis by the media that cuts to government employees, bloated to inspect foreign products, caused response delay any more than previous years. Prove that it wasn’t the billions of funding fraudulently spent on scam social services for nonexistent people which depleted federal funding! Prove that it wasn’t a corporate decision by private businesses to seek unsafe foreign sources of products to undercut competition! Prove it wasn’t the state mandated wage increases which caused corporations to decide to cut costs with unsafe imported foreign products!

    @boekjar

    How confident can we be that the Taylor Farms was a false-positive and not just a phone call made to Trump from his donor to change the story?

      @musicgram08

      How confident was the Minnesota Somali congresswoman, governor and state legislature that with no oversight the social services which exploded in spending of federal and state funds were not fraudulent?

    • 13
      @musicgram08

      How confident are you the federal government could send billions in tax funds to state governments for fraudulent social services, still employee massive numbers of government workers for oversight which legislation outlawed, and not harm the federal government’s credit rating over foreign malpractice?

    @musicgram08

    Was it state governments deciding to be white supremacists and just politely pay for scammers billing nonexistent social services for nonexistent people that budget cuts in federal spending had to be made? Is it also white supremacy to test Mexican lettuce for diseases and teach gay foreign sex workers how to make pastries rather than suck .…? Sure the corporations didn’t know reputation of foreign lettuce growers anymore than NGOs knew pastry making skills would change reputations of gay foreign sex workers. It was all just misplaced white supremacist responsibility onto USA citizens taxes for behaviors in foreign nations. Well then again it could have just been the white supremacist theory of excess national debt ruining a nation’s credit score!

    Is USA the only nation importing leafy greens that have been shit? No other nations across the globe have citizens with explosive diarrhea? Is USA only importing the suspected contaminated leafy greens?

  7. 18
    @musicgram08

    Do other nations importing leafy greens have multitudes of domestic scientists who test for shit contaminate on those imported leafy greens?

    They gave our unit a pill for malaria every week during Operation Iraquí Freedom. Lariam, I think was the name.

    Taylor Farms and Trump have quite the history. They donated to his Presidency and has the WH on speed dial. Another quid pro quo, something the Trump WH has made into a business.

    It’s pretty suspicious that every time Trump is president, we have some kind of disease or parasite outbreak.🤔
