Well, race isn’t a very interesting thing for people to feel connection with, so people won’t want to watch the movie. Since people won’t watch the movie, you shouldn’t get a very big budget, because you won’t make much money on it. Honestly surprised these sorts productions get made at all.
It wasn’t marketed as a black show if thats what you’re trying to say. Its just like sex in the city and they just happen to be black women. They didn’t even get a quarter of the budget most pilot season shows get that have majority white casts. Girlfriends wasn’t the first show with a black cast this has happened to but they made do and managed to make great tv for 8 years.
