Police receive a call reporting gunshots fired inside a residence. Officers arrive at a grisly scene: four people are dead, including a young girl. Could a killer’s resentments of his family enjoying Thanksgiving together have lead to their murder?

Hosted by Nancy Grace, The Christmas Killings is a true crime docuseries that blends merry with mystery as it delves into holiday-season homicide investigations.

My two cents: this man was brat and a narcissist. You pull a gun on your family at thirteen. Then he pulls a knife on his twin sister. I wouldn’t invite him to nothing either. He was miserable spoiled man. He blamed his family for having a life. He destroyed his family because he was evil. You killed your sisters because they have a life. Should I say they had a life. So you decide to destroy somebody else’s life. Why? Makes no sense to me makes no sense at all. Shame on him shame on him😢

This twisted MF’er had to go get another gun, go back in house, go to the child’s room and shoot her. Intentional. It’s not as if she was in the room with the others. Wanted to do that is extra sinister.

I don’t want to be harsh I’m sure as a father it’s difficult to leave son out of holiday but you invite the son knowing he has a history of violence and of threatening your daughters but you invite him anyway thinking well “maybe it will be all right”. Sadly, that wasn’t a bet he should’ve made. I understand mental illness affect thoughts & actions but does it make you jealous and hateful towards a child? I also didn’t understand why, when he had a mental breakdown at college, he was “all alone”. If family knew and didn’t bring him home or get him treatment that’s messed up. I don’t think we have all the information. I also don’t know if it’s mental illness or you just have character flaws that you get jealous if you feel other people have it better than you and that makes you angry, so you turned to violence, murderous.

Oh my god, I met Paul when he was on the run. He didn’t stay in the room the whole time. I was working at the Key West Borders bookstore where he came in to purchase a book about doctor-assisted suicide called Final Exit. It wasn’t in stock so we had to order it and he gave me a fake name, John Baca. He was wearing the same white shirt/blue shorts he’s wearing in the arrest video, super sweaty and twitchy and giving me really uncomfortable vibes, but the area where I worked had a lot of people with addiction issues so it was, sadly, not uncommon to meet people acting like that. I’m face blind and didn’t recognize him from the news. He never came back for the book, he’d been arrested. When the police came in later to collect it and it hit me who I’d been completely alone in the store with I couldn’t stop shaking.

I’m Makayla’s father. I was there. This program has many facts wrong.
Paul did not go back to his car after the shooting started. He had both guns with him.
Paul’s mother and sisters knew a week before that Paul was coming. We now know this because cops found an email from Carol (Paul’s mom) had sent to one of her friends saying,”I hope Paul doesn’t kill all of us in Thanksgiving.”
They never told us they had invited him! We did sue them but a judge threw it out!
I also begged the prosecutors and judge not to offer a plea deal but they had already done the deed.
Paul is now in prison being protected and coddled with our tax money. Justice? I think not.
Florida and the feds should not have allowed Paul to buy guns after he had been baker acted for threatening his sister with a knife.
I had bought a shotgun 6 mos before the murders but it was in my closet and I could not get to it. We had to run out the back door as he was shooting at us. My wife and I ran around our house to Makayla’s window. I was trying to break the window to pull her out but it is hurricane glass and I heard the shots going into my daughter. I ran to the front door to confront Paul but he had already disappeared and I began trying to save Makayla’s life.
Maybe that’s why this Nancy Grace program never bothered to contact me or ask us for an interview.
Paul Merhige (pronounced marriage) should’ve got the death penalty. If it’s not used in a case where 2 children are murdered plus a gramma , and twin sisters one who’s pregnant!
When would it ever be used?
You will never know how awful it is to see your family being killed and not have a gun for self / family defense. This will not happen to me again because I learned my lesson. I now carry everyday!
