Its just a stupid film its Hollywood nonsense . It is meant to move emotions not be accurate whatever some YTer says. they are just looking for likes. It goes for all war movies and historical movies and TV. Watch documentaries and read books (lots of them) if you want to know about history.
Just watched a video about this about a month ago. This could’ve been prevented if they had some of Percy “hobo” Hobarts funnies. The other 4 beaches were pretty successful with his “funny” looking tanks. In the movie, the reference it when tom hanks said that their DD Sherman tanks sank. They deployed them too far and they sank.
They had a crazy ass tank. It was called the crocodile. It was a flamethrower tank, that can spit flames as far as 120 yards. Thats an entire football field including the end zones. Thats insane!!!
And for what????

I talked with a friend of mine about this movie just a few weeks after it came out and we were talking about an auto accident our jobs related to the death and mutations of people that sometimes we knew and I was so very young and new to the fire and rescue part of my job and asked him as a person who worked in the funeral business how he had learned to deal with the death of people even when they were so very young. He asked me if I had seen the movie and I said yes, he then said that he had lived it and the only thing that was missing was the smell. He never said anything about it again and I didn’t ask.
I saw it in theatres and wanted my dad to see it. He fought in vietnam, in special forces. He didnt make it past the opening scene just walked out theatre and said ill meet you outside. I finished movie by myself and he was outside in car waiting. When I got in car he was cold and didnt wanna talk. I was 16 and will never forget how he looked.
Whats even crazier was how many WW2 vets or Korean war vets in theatre fully dressed in uniforms. They cried and saluted screen. Was insanely emotional. I just shook their hands and said thank you.
I knew an old guy who was 17 on the pacific campaign. They landed on pacific islands and his weapon was a flame thrower. Sickly he explained that he took great pleasure in cooking folks with his appliance. He was a weird old guy.

Another good historically accurate film is Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World. It’s a napoleonic wars era film based on the battle between the British and French empires at the peak of colonialism (when the spainish controlled a HUGE part of north and South America. Essentially when every European power was imperialistic) it follows a British ship named the HMS Surprise. Which was a ship sailing from England to Brazil (at the time a Portuguese colony) when they were intercepted by the French frigate Acheron. Don’t want to spoil the movie. But it was pretty good.

Omaha beach had the highest casualties of any of the beaches with about 2,000 casualties while Utah had the lowest of all the beaches with 197 casualties. The opening scene also show the Germans using the MG42 to produce withering fire into the landing craft as they beach. Most casualties were suffered from artillery shells and fragmentation devices. The MG42 couldn’t keep up with the rate of fire as depicted in the movie. The manual for the MG42 stated that barrel had to be changed after 250 rounds. This was to stop it from overheating and jamming. It was also slow to change the barrel. The British Bren gun had a similar rate but its barrel was much easier to change.

kindly, don’t spread misinformation. I know 425k sounds like big impressive, dramatic number, but they were discussing opening scenes in SPR, landing on Omaha beach. ~2500 american casualities there.
