Spoon is a great player. But he is not a classic shutdown corner. Just sayin. Go HAWKS
Because he’s a Swiss Army Knife. They’re never going to use him just on the outside. He’s too good of a pass rusher, too good in the slot. He can do everything well. He doesn’t just specialize in one thing.
@brandonb.5304 exactly! Honestly I have trouble with a comp for Spoon. He’s always been a hard hitter for his size and a great tackler but we’ve seen that in CB’s in the past. But where those past greats were still primarily outside corners, Spoon’s “ballplaying” is like that of an all-pro safety. The play where I really got it with Spoon was Coby’s pick 6 against Kyler in 2024. It’s 4th and 1 and there’s a play fake up the middle while Kyler sprints right with a run-pass option. Spoon is crashing the line, sees Kyler, does a spin move, and closes the distance with Kyler so fast that you could see even Kyler was shocked. The result is a desperation lob up to Coby. After all that, Spoon is blocking for Coby on the return. Spoon’s maybe the best B-gap blitzing CB I remember seeing. Macdonald is the perfect coach to get the most out of this kind of versatility. Yet Spoon is still enough of a sticky corner to make the 3rd and 4th down PD’s against the Rams in the NFC Championship and even but the guy fast enough to just get Puka down in bounds on the last play.
Great supplemental commentary. Almost as good as the episode.
Schneider drafts PEOPLE and PIECES before players. They have to fit. Rams and Steelers draft TALENT, even if they are unstable. Thats why those teams are always described with their hero ball players while the Hawks are described as a team.

I thought Big Cat in the garden was the perfect example of “Warrior in the Garden.” And his teammates talking about about how nice a guy he is… until he gets on the field where he’s a beast.
Arnold’s contract will be probationary. Schneider has been down this road before.
