Because Hitler and the Nazi’s order the Nero decree. Which meant to burn it all so no one could have them.

Great movie with great actors. Saw it years ago but just watched it like I never saw it before? I cried a few times but the beautiful works of art are priceless. Hitler and the evil doers under him were criminals and murderers. Yes, the evil perpetuated against the Jews was prophesied in the Old Testament and by Jesus. The Jews rejected their God multiple times but what Hitler did was pure evil. The teeth? All of their belongings, art, riches etc, were not his to just take. Burning and destroying works of art? Like the left today? Tearing down statues? Terrorists in Iraq and Iran destroying their own ancient history? We need more movies like this.

The difference between the barbarians of the 1940s and the barbarians today is that the barbarians of the 1940s at least valued the art and shared our common history. Their crime was to steal it. The barbarians of today will happily just burn it all down or use it for toilet paper. They do no share our culture, our heritage, our history. In fact, they despise all of these things and would happily erase it. If you think what these men in this movie did was heroic, you’d better consider what’s being done in Europe right now today in the war no one declared and half the populace won’t even admit is being fought.
