Watch the complete animated reconstruction of The Macra Terror – a Second Doctor adventure from 1967. Subscribe to Doctor Who: Classic for more full episodes: https://bbc.in/DWClassicSubscribe

The Doctor and his companions arrive on a human colony in the far flung future. The colony outwardly appears to be happy and carefree. But behind it’s cheerful exterior the colony has been secretly infiltrated by a race of giant parasitic crab creatures called the Macra.

The original 1967 master recordings of ‘The Macra Terror’ were lost soon after the programme’s original transmission. However, audio-only recordings have survived and have been used to create a brand new fully animated reconstruction of this lost classic.

First Broadcast between the 11th March – 1st April 1967

Starring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor alongside Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), Anneke Wills (Polly Wright) and Michael Craze (Ben Jackson)

Very interesting ending. Alright, it’s true the Macra are ‘oppressing’ the human colony, but it’s not like they are farming the humans for food. They just want the gas they need to live, so I’m surprised the Doctor didn’t even try any negotiations. Seems like the 3rd or 5th Doctors would have at least tried to make some kind of deal for the Macra to trade something for the gas.

Also interesting that somebody says something like ‘there are no Macra!’, when I’m fairly sure that was the first time the word even appears in the serial, so how did that person know to call them that? 😂

I don’t know how they made the monsters so spooky, but they did. Maybe it’s the music, it might have inspired the Mother Brain theme from Metroid. Excellent work!
