In his first-ever television interview, killer Thomas Gilbert, Jr. discusses the murder that shook New York’s elite. The Princeton-educated “golden boy” became a tabloid obsession when he shot his father after his $1,000 allowance was cut off. But in this unique installment of Interview With a Killer, Gilbert appears to be a far cry from his once golden upbringing. Court TV’s David Scott explores his long history of mental illness and the privileged pressure cooker that shaped his downfall.

I think you’ve got used to interviewing killers that now you make the same assumptions about everyone. The rude things you said when you were describing a clearly ill person made me wonder if maybe you too are just as cold and lack sympathy. I mean maybe you would really just do anything at this point for as long as you interview a killer. This was a mess. And on your part it looked messier. How did a person that’s clearly not in touch with reality consent to the interview???? Was this interview consensual at all? And the biasness?Even all the parties interviewed in here cried when you showed them clips of your interview and they can really tell you weren’t interviewing anyone 😒 he wasn’t there .

      wow!!!!
this is the second time i didn’t agree with his way of talking to these as his program says killers!
you just said all the things that i wanted to say… in this case, so very sadly he can’t discern the emptiness of this man, he treats him like he was a serial killer with his very heartless questions…
      i am soooo sad 😭😭😭

Can I ask a question, and I’m not asking this to cause a fire. I mean it seriously. Why, when I watch true crime, are almost all the killers white males, whether the show is British or American. I looked at this series and the host interviews almost all white men. I watch true crime religiously, and I swear, almost all the perps are white males. Yet when I looked at the statistics, they don’t corroborate the demographics of the shows. Even the UK, where knife murders are quite skewed toward black males, per capita, it is rare to see a non-white male who is the focus of attention on TV.

I guess it is because of historical racism, but I think I’m with John McWhorter here, patronizing people is a form of racism, too. And I guess it can breed racism when TV shows only concentrate on white men when it comes to serious crimes. So, why would they do it? I haven’t been able to find a media article or an academic study that explains this fairly new phenomenon. Serial killers, I get it. Most of the really vile ones were white, but statistically, the numbers are too skewed toward whites. Skin color, of course, does not determine character or violence, the kind of thing a racist might say. So, is it not racist to skew the TV shows? The host of this show seems very clever, and fair, so I am sure he would be able to provide an interesting answer.

Part of insanity is only hearing bits and pieces of questions, because you can’t keep your mind focused… you are unattached from reality. He’s completely insane in this interview, and it’s brutally hard for him to even focus. That’s why he’s just giving generic easy answers.
