Season two of Talking Pictures is here! Bill Murray doesn’t do a lot of podcasts, but he was game to talk movies with host Ben Mankiewicz. They dive into his comedies (Stripes, Caddyshack, Groundhog Day) and discuss the directors Murray works with repeatedly (Wes Anderson, Jim Jarmusch). Murray remembers growing up a “bad boy” in a house with eight siblings and how success impacted his mom. Finally, our Super 8 returns and you don’t want to miss the prop Bill Murray says he would steal for his personal collection.

When Murray mentions John Belushi (32:20) “burying” an actor who came on SNL “who won an Oscar”, I’m pretty sure he’s specifically talking about Richard Dreyfuss (but PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong!)!

I seem to recall some behind the scenes stories from back during the week Dreyfuss hosted SNL during the third season of the show (1978), after having just won The Oscar for “The Goodbye Girl”, in that he came in (allegedly) a bit “full of himself”, and with a bit of ‘attitude’ that some of the cast members, Belushi in particular, REALLY didn’t appreciate……and thus, as Murray tells it, ended up with Belushi doing his best to “bury” Dreyfuss whenever, and however he could, during the week he was there to work on the show.

Speaking of which, hearing this story about (again, I’m assuming, but don’t know for SURE) Richard Dreyfuss, suddenly made a lightbulb go off in my head…….I wonder if their (i.e., SNL cast members) alleged dislike for Richard Dreyfuss’s appearance on SNL in 1978 MAYBE could have possibly carried over to the 1991 movie, “What About Bob?”, that (somewhat) famously led to a VERY bad experience for he (Murray) and Dreyfuss while working on that movie…. 🤔
