Bulletproofing America’s Classrooms
With more than 230 school shootings in the United States over the past decade, and active shooter drills now a routine part of students’ lives, technologies developed to protect soldiers in combat are being adapted and marketed to parents and schools. One thing they all have in common: high prices ($185 for a bulletproof pencil case, $450 for a hoodie, $60,000 for a shelter), prompting concerns that safety disparities could be exacerbated for low-income families and school districts.
