Saturday Movie Showcase: Steel Magnolias (2012) — A Modern Tribute to Sisterhood and Strength
BlackTree Media presents Steel Magnolias, the vibrant 2012 Lifetime remake of the beloved stage play and 1989 classic. This contemporary version brings the iconic story to life with an incredible all-Black ensemble cast, directed by Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun).
Set in a small town in Louisiana, the film is a poignant celebration of the unbreakable bond between six women who navigate life’s greatest joys and deepest tragedies together.
⭐ Plot Synopsis
The story centers on the lives and friendship of six women who regularly congregate at “Truvy’s Beauty Spot,” the neighborhood hub for gossip, laughter, and support. M’Lynn (Queen Latifah) is the fiercely protective mother of Shelby (Condola Rashad), a spirited young woman with Type 1 diabetes who is determined to have a child despite the risks to her health. Alongside their friends—the sharp-tongued Ouiser (Alfre Woodard), the elegant Clairee (Phylicia Rashad), the soulful Truvy (Jill Scott), and the shy newcomer Annelle (Adepero Oduye)—they prove that they are as “delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel.”

Steele Magnolias is one of my favorite movies. I wasn’t happy with the remake. I love the cast.
Doesn’t compare to the original movie , but black lives matter, I guess.
July 2026, such a heartfelt movie 😭
yeah. “i would rather have 30 minutes of something wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special!”
I like the original movie very much. However, this remake is good also.
What is this a parody. If not they should call it something else cause the original movie was about a bunch of white woman. Totally different scenerio.
