The year country music superstar Eric Church turned 40, he survived a life-threatening blood clot and headlined a Las Vegas music festival that two days later became the scene of the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history. Months later, his brother Brandon died. In this revealing conversation, Eric tells Anderson how these events changed him, as a man and a father, and how he copes with the trauma left behind.

And it hurts when your kids stop needing and wanting you. It really hurts down in your soul like nothing ever
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 for you Anderson.
is eric still promoting bad habits to kids with his shttt music?
a.) Eric Church never had ‘sh-t music’
b.) Country music is meant to be about real life, Chief likes to drink after a long day. How would that promote bad habits?
My sister was beaten to death by her boyfriend 05/25/02 and about 6 months ago I was sitting in traffic and looked in my rearview mirror and thought I have my daddy’s eyebrows and he had my parental grandmother’s eyebrows. Then I couldn’t remember what my sister Chris’ eyebrows looked like and started crying right there. Like I have always heard grief hits you like a wave out of nowhere. I always thought that something should have to trigger your grief. Things like a smell or someone looking like this person or even a song. But it is true grief does come out of nowhere.💔
Advice:
I lost my mom when I was 11 (half my life ago) to something very traumatic. I woke up one morning to the realization that I couldn’t remember her voice or what she looked like.
I was taught to toss my grief aside and keep on going (which, as Eric said, isn’t a good idea. It’s the equivalent to throwing an important work assignment on the kitchen table and putting it off until the deadline; it’s not going anywhere by ignoring it).
With that said, at the time I thought about it as, _Okay, I guess I’m recovering now_ After I mentioned this to my therapist, I had a severe psych evaluation.
All of this is to say, close the door that is open that continually hurts, and open the door for good things to come.
Trust me, it gets better
and life gets better.
