Shortly after this video release Richard Marx was widely acclaimed by fellow musicians and the industry as the new savior of rock. Aligning him in the likes of the Eagles or some say southern rock type bands. Those critics would soon realize with Marx’s next release and future releases that he was more than a rock singer. Consequently this upsetted The Establishment as they thought they were getting a pure rock musician
Speaking as someone who actually went there for a whole year, I can honestly say that this is the MOST accurate depiction of Hollywood as a place that I have ever heard in any song in my life. Go Richard Marx! Keep making the Chicago area proud!!!

I’m not sure if you have read his book but he goes into some details about how he came up with his song. After listening to it for a billion years (ok not that mean, but a long time) it was awesome to have a clear context behind this particular song.

Speaking as someone who spent a year in Hollywood doing (successful!!! In such, as everyone knows, a TOUGH business to boot!!! Thank you Lord!!!) professional acting, directing, screenwriting, and production training, I can honestly say that this is the most realistic, accurate depiction of what struggling, starving artists have to go through there that I have ever seen anywhere in my life, both inside and outside of Hollywood itself. Rock on Richard!!! Congrats on such a successful career that is still going strong to this day!!! Keep making Chi-Town proud both in the Entertainment Industry and everywhere else!!!🥴🤤😬

I just read an article that stated Timothy Schmidt (bass player of the Eagles) sang harmony on this song.
