A young American girl, Peri, discovers a strange artefact while holidaying with her step-father in the Mediterranean. After an accident, Turlough brings her aboard the TARDIS to recover. The artefact leads the Doctor to the volcanic world of Sarn, where Turlough begins to find the natives strangely familiar. Peri is left behind on the TARDIS with Kamelion, who begins to act strangely, finally shapeshifting into the form of the Master!

Doctor Who has a crazy life!
Peri and Howard’s accents being all over the place is pretty funny. Apparently Nicola Bryant’s agent hadnt told the show runners that she wasnt actually American, and had to keep up the act, even off screen
No American would ever mistake Peri for an American.
The 5th Doctor somehow feels the Master deserved to die probably because he remembered when he had failed as the 3rd Doctor to destroy the Master in the Mind of Evil in order to prevent the Master’s deadly acts! The Master already used up all his regeneration although he managed to survive himself with another source in the Keeper of Traken! How in the world could he be so indestructible the Doctor ended up meeting him again?

Is that what British people think Americans sound like?
The episode tried to show Peri as smarter than she seems and strong-willed, possibly even with some untapped psychic potential. Then the series just didn’t do anything with those ideas.
I just recently noticed… Apparently, the were having us on when they cast Jason Wyngarde in this. He starred in a horror film in the 60s, Burn Witch Burn! And now here he is in Planet of Fire. I suppose they could have thrown in a few Flash Gordon jokes too…
