Recently we polled viewers here on YouTube as well as on our social media, along with gathering up comments and suggestions on past videos we’ve done, and put together this list of 30 music videos from the 1980’s that many of you felt were the most iconic and best representative of the decade! These are the videos that many of you said you remembered the best, and felt had the best visuals along with great songs that really stood out as some of the very best music videos shown on MTV back in the day.
You’ll find classic videos by artists like MICHAEL JACKSON, DURAN DURAN, LIONEL RICHIE, PRINCE, MEN AT WORK, A-HA, PETER GABRIEL, GENESIS, and many more!
While this video features so many hits from that time period, needless to say there are still many other great ones that didn’t make the list here, and we will definitely be doing a “part two” follow-up video soon featuring more of the iconic and most memorable videos of the ’80’s! 1.) This is NOT a list of our personal favorites. We looked at the comments on our recent MTV shorts, as well as the results of our poll where we asked you all what you considered to be the most iconic videos of the 1980’s, along with some articles and official MTV year-end lists, to put together this list of 30 music videos that were some of the most groundbreaking and iconic videos that came out during the 1980’s. This is definitely NOT a complete list by any means, and we will be doing a follow up video to show more of the videos that best represents the 1980’s!
2.) This list features artists from all over the world, but keep in mind that this list does focus primarily on what videos were being aired on MTV here in the U.S. However in future shorts we will be featuring more videos that were popular in other territories, so if you don’t see your favorite videos or ones you remember the most, you’ll possibly see them in the next edition!
3.) This channel is not AI, we are a couple of Gen-X’ers who grew up with this music and love it! We make these videos as a fun reminder of the music many of us know from our younger days and we encourage you to seek out these songs and make a playlist and enjoy them! I had no idea the Robert Palmer videos weee considered iconic Vy anybody. Both songs (Addicted to Love and the other one—can’t recall the name) sounded the same. The videos were completely interchangeable. I fully expected them to be forgotten by now. They were drab and boring.

Out of all of these 80s music things I’ve seen/heard recently… I have not heard the song “purple rain”…… At all!……… And for me that was a pretty iconic song…… Am I wrong?
