Teenage brothers Daniel and Eli Davis suddenly find themselves alone after their mother and father disappear.
Older brother Daniel attempts to keep their situation secret. Haunted by the physical and emotional abuse inflicted by their father, he works as a dishwasher, maintains a daily routine and struggles to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads.
Meanwhile, younger brother Eli continues leaving voicemail messages for their missing mother, hoping she will return and explain why the family was abandoned.
As money disappears and their circumstances become increasingly desperate, the brothers must depend on one another while learning that survival sometimes requires accepting kindness from unexpected places.

FILM NOTES
Method Man delivers a dramatic performance as the brothers’ troubled and abusive father, stepping away from his more familiar roles in crime dramas and comedies.
Cedric the Entertainer appears as Louis, an older man whose presence reflects the film’s message about community, compassion and the people who offer assistance when a family is in crisis.
At the center of the movie are Marcus Scribner and Lonnie Chavis, whose performances capture the fear, loyalty and emotional burden carried by children forced to become adults too soon.
WHY WATCH?
How I Learned to Fly is not simply a story about abandonment. It is about two brothers refusing to give up on one another despite poverty, trauma and uncertainty.
The film also challenges the idea that strength means handling every problem alone. Sometimes the bravest decision is admitting that help is needed.
⚠️ Viewer Discretion Advised: Contains child abuse, domestic violence, abandonment, strong language and mature emotional themes.
