Marilyn Grabowski spent over 40 years as Playboy’s West Coast Photography Editor. Known as “Mo,” she was the woman who decided what was “sexy” for generations of Americans, discovering Pamela Anderson, Dorothy Stratten, and Anna Nicole Smith along the way. She formed friendships with women who came through her studio, and may have been the recipient of allegations about what went on at the Playboy Mansion. This is the complicated legacy of “Mo.”

I always remember being both curious and fascinated that a person who looked like her held so much gatekeeping power when it came to standards of beauty. Another fabulous video❤

thank you! I similarly am fascinated, and I think part of it is the mystery of who she truly is – a gatekeeper that we as the public do not really know

Can’t wait for Pam Anderson video! ❤ absolutely love her as well… also just realized you remind me of the girl from Even Stevens 😂

Can you do a video on what it would be like to work for Hugh Hefner as one of his secretaries or those ladies who worked at the mansion and were connected to the girls. Like Mary O’Connor. I remember people like that were in the A&E series. Idk if you could find more primary sources on that.

There is a Mary O’Connor video on this playlist! One challenge with the newspaper postings is that so much has not been digitized… so she was both a private citizen and the inner workings of the job were kept so secretive until Secrets of Playboy! But I’d love to learn more about staff

@lauraediez ohh okay gotcha! Thank you for still considering. Hulu needs to do a whole documentary purely on the staff there and interview people! It’s so interesting to me because there’s no job in the world like it and they were kind of silent faces in changing culture. It couldn’t have been done without them.

You should do a video on the most significant female house staff (like chefs and butlers) and what it was like to work there in that setting as a woman

The secrets of playboy is worth a watch, lots of female employees there blowing the whistle on the disgusting treatment of the playmates, a couple of the women speaking were also SA’d. It’s a hard watch but it is eye opening.

Have you covered the original seven girlfriends? Would love to see what Buffy Tyler is up to. She was always my favorite of the original 7.
