South Florida developer George Pino is charged with vessel homicide and manslaughter in a 2022 boat crash that killed 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez and left another teen permanently disabled. Prosecutors allege Pino was operating the boat when it slammed into a channel marker near Boca Chita Key, while the defense argues the crash was a tragic accident and that there is insufficient evidence to support the charges. Pino reportedly admitted drinking two beers and claimed another boat contributed to the crash. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

After watching the videos, it is obvious to anyone who has owned or driven a boat before, that those markers are the problem!! Why in the world they would have them in an area with no limited speed limit is criminal!! When you are driving a boat those markers can easily be missed by reflection of water, sun going down or it could be blocked by the window edges on the boat. They need to put ones that would not cause a wreck if you hit them…or limit the speed.

This may have been an accident by the everyday definition of the word. But to take 13 people on your 29′ boat, 11 of which were teenagers, and continue to speed up to 50mph through a channel (ever been on a boat going 50mph? JESUS) not watching your surroundings is criminally reckless. If you can’t see where you are going, you slow down. It is seriously, that simple. Poor Lucy lost her life after sadly giving up her middle/safe seat to Carolina Monterrey who was afraid of boats. That split second decision changed the course of her life, literally.

The technology of publishing exhibits is astounding. Standing in front of the jury holding up papers. Perhaps they could have carved some on stone tablets
