8:30AM ET: Anthony Fauci, the former top U.S. infectious disease expert, is scheduled to testify today before the Senate Homeland Security Committee after being subpoenaed by Committee Chairman Sen. Rand Paul. The hearing comes amid the pair’s long-running dispute over the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, Paul released 1,141 pages of Fauci’s pandemic-era diary entries, while the Trump administration announced Tuesday it is barring new federal funding for gain-of-function research, a type of research that has remained at the center of debates over the pandemic’s origins.
