Postpartum depression/ anxiety/ psychosis is so real and needs to be talked about more often without the judgement of society. I am almost 7 months postpartum and I am seeing a mental health nurse practitioner for anxiety. My fear stims from losing a pregnancy. I’m scared to leave my baby with anyone while I go to work. I’m scared to let people hold her. I have intrusive thoughts like what if I’m driving down the road and someone wrecks into us? What if I take my baby on a walk and someone or something attacks us and it will be my fault? I am so protective of my daughter. She was born 3 months early and was in the NICU for 68 days.
With that being said, I can’t understand how a mother could harm her babies knowing how protective I am of my baby. I have never experienced psychosis, however, I would imagine being in that state you wouldn’t be able to thoroughly plan out a way for your husband to leave so that you can murder your children. And to me, looking at her pictures she has a completely different demeanor from photos before the killings. Her facial expressions look evil. Her facial expressions are flat affect. This is hard one when mental health is involved but I also feel like a lot of women could blame postpartum and use it to their advantage when committing crimes. I cannot fathom this mindset.

She should not be hold criminally responsible if it was up to me! But she did murder ‘her’ three children. She is a ‘sleeper’ latent schitzofrenic; who had her first severe post-partem psychosis. It is not a classic murder (attempting) suicide either. The suicide attempt is a result of ‘what have I done’ after coming back to reality, guilt’ AND a punishment she inflicted on herself / a sanction “death’. She does not know why she did what she did. No memories / no clue what was the tricker – if any – of that distorted reality . She has no memory of the horrific triple murder and why she attacked the children. Thus no knowledge either of this the mental state / event / crisis in which she killed her three children she loved so much. There were no indicators to her knowledge of by others. I do believe her!

I find it terribly sad that doctors send women like Lindsay home, when she’s seeking in patient help…. Until they’ve done the unthinkable, then they’ll keep them!!!! Something drastic needs to happen, in the mental health industry! We need to take these women’s cry for help MORE seriously!!!

I have two children. First baby fine postpartum, second baby five years later postpartum depression. Successfully treated. One year later full blown depression. Could not do anything let alone plan any thing. Many trials of medication until the right one was found. The stigma needs to be removed from mental illness because it’s biological inherited and with the right care successfully treated . God bless those three babies and I know she could not have been in her right mind. She was so over drugged. It was ridiculous. she was taking several SSRI drugs at once which is a no-no. They had her on two different kinds of tranquilizers which is a no-no and they also had her on a few different mood stabilizers at the same time which is definitely a no-no. Massachusetts has horrible mental health care. I live here I know. To her husband‘s point he is correct. They will not keep you more than three days in a psychiatric unit in Massachusetts. That’s it thank God I’ve never had to go.

At this point, I have no empathy for him either! He wants to sue her doctors now. I just don’t understand why, if he knew all of this, and wants to go after the doctor now, where was he as far as contacting the doctors back then? I’m talking about before she kills their children. All these people seem to be coming out of the woodwork for her trial! On her side, defending her! Where were they then?? They all have something to say, someone to blame. But none of them, not a single one, ever seem to rescue the children from this monster! Patrick, where were you when your children were under the threat of Lindsey? Why didn’t you take them away from the situation? Why wasn’t help called? You could have called for help. Did you realize you could have gotten her help, even against her will! Seriously!! I feel that Lindsey had alot of power, even over you Patrick. Sorry, but I can’t drop a tear for you. You were a father and you had choices!! The children had none!!
