Eldon “El Duce” Hoke, the frontman of the shock-rock band the Mentors, claimed in the 1998 documentary Kurt & Courtney that Courtney Love offered him $50,000 to murder her husband, Kurt Cobain. Hoke passed a polygraph test regarding the claim, but historians and investigators generally dismiss his assertion as an unverified and unreliable conspiracy theory.
Eight days after passing the polygraph test, Hoke died on April 19, 1997, after being struck by a freight train in Riverside, California.
