Actually, slavery officially ended almost 6 months later on December 6, 1865, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution by the majority of the states.
Two points of interest:
Mississippi was the last state to officially ratify the 13th Amendment on February 7, 2013.
Yes, you read that correctly, 2013. Although the state voted to ratify on March 16, 1995, it failed to properly notify the US Archivist. So, the official recorded date is February 7, 2013.
Second:
The last states to free their slaves were the Northern states of Kentucky and Delaware, as they refused to do so until the 13th Amendment was ratified.
Why when I searched youtubemovies on the YT channel I get ONLY movies with black actors. Today ain’t Juneteenth and it’s April. WTAF is going on. I mean I like all movies with Kevin Hart, et al but there aint even any Latinos on here either, or Vietnamese or Indian or….the whole channel has been hijacked. BTW living in TX from 80-95, yes I know EXACTLY what Juneteenth represents.
