Long overdue “Flowers” for Mr. Jim Abbott, but at the same time it’s the perfect time. Beautiful speech and loved watching “Southpaw”. I was about 14 years old when I got my first Jim Abbott baseball card. Fast forward to now I still have it and many more of his cards today.

I took 3 pitches from Jim Abbott at a Ted Mahan baseball camp. Didn’t even take the bat off my shoulders. 1 at 97 mph, the 2nd at 98 mph and the 3rd at 100 mph. Didn’t see a one as they went by. After the 3rd one I took my helmet in my hand tipped it to him and bowed. 3 to 4 years before John Kruk did the same to Randy Johnson in the All Star Game.
This was a very well done speech. Very well deserved award. Jim is a great steward of the game. I can’t remember the year but I met him at a baseball camp at U of M and watched, in person, how well he could pitch and switch glove hands. Truly an amazingly talented individual!!!!
