can anyone explain how does ranking differ from race? I understand race is from a specific calendar year, and ranking is based on the results of last 52 weeks, where players need to confirm their last year’s results in order not to lose points? But the race to Turin, if you are top 8 in the race, and not in top 8 in 52 weeks, can you still get in? Then why do we mention the 52 weeks then? so confusing this double ranking… Jannik is number 4 in the race, but everyone only say he is number 1, which is true in 52 week ranking. so why have 2?

So what I think u r asking is if a player is in the top 8 in the official ranking and is not in the top 8 for the Turin race will they still qualify for Turin? As u mentioned before players need to defend their points right? So it’s likely the top 8 or top 10 in the 52 week ranking will be more likely to qualify to play at Turin because according to the 52 week ranking they have been able to protect their ranking and at the same time in defending their points it will be recorded as gained points in the year. So the short answer is that at the end of the year: you will see the top 8 to 10 players(in the 52 week ranking) qualifying for Turin as the top 8- it’s just basically math. But it’s mainly the Turin top 8 that automatically qualify.

Race is to compete in Turin, but the past year is used for the ranking. We can’t have everyone be unranked until they play a tournament for the year, or just forcing everyone to play in the first tournament to be number 1 in the world

This is unacceptable. How can Sinner be back in the circuit after 90 days for using banned performance enhancing drugs. It’s called cheating. Sharapova had to end her career..I think she was given 24 months! Why have the rules been bent for Sinner? Not watching him. How’s he any different from Lance Armstrong? Sinner should be made to give up all his titles and prize money, banned from the circuit for 2 years. He can resume his pro career after that and if he’s genuinely a high performer, then he will get am opportunity to prove it. Meantime, get this cheater off the pro circuits. He’s a phony.
