This is about money? Wtf is he on about
Private equity firms have consolidated ownership of a growing number of ATP/WTA tournaments. They’re ruining the world in every possible way.
The first guy is a (sexy) idiot.
Just because the slams are making up most top 100 player’s revenue doesn’t mean their revenue isn’t underwhelming to begin with. It’s a total statistical strawman argument and made in very bad faith. The Slams only give between 13-16% of the their TOTAL REVENUE to the players. That’s pathetic and well below the 25-35% that other major sports leagues do, despite the expenses for tennis players being FAR FAR higher. Easily need to raise it to 20% minimum and higher distribution percentage to the lower ranked players – income in tennis is very much exponential depending on your ranking. Logorithmic not arithmetic.
Not to mention Slam countries are using their revenue for national programs, renovations and facilities and coaches that ONLY benefit that home country. So Australia, USA, France and England have a massive advantage built on the backs of underpaying the international players generating their revenue.
Jessica Pegula would not be where she is right now if she had not been a billionaire and her game allowed to develop until she broke out at age 24. Players shouldn’t need to go on a miracle run like Valentin Vacherot to make tennis financially viable.
Well said Jannik 🙌🏽 It’s only fair they get 22% honestly. And in any case, there should at least be a conversation!
The only true injustice at grand slams is the fact that tennismen are paid as much as tenniswomen.
It’s brutal in the men’s game and unless you’re regularly going far into a tournament you can struggle financially. And to keep your game at its peak you need a team around you…and there’s all that travelling and accommodation to sort out. Get yourself in the EPL where you get massive wages every week even if you’re sitting on the bench.
Alot of Sports athletes at the very top get too much money.
It is more to do with promoters chasing headline figures.
The top guys could easily loose 25+% of their winnings provided that the saving is used to ensure all professional players get a decent wage for their efforts, even if they lose.
More support would also be welcome for the academies and families of those kids trying to become professionals.
