Jane Campion raised eyebrows at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards with a painfully awkward joke comparing herself to Serena and Venus Williams.
While accepting Best Director for “The Power of the Dog” at Sunday’s ceremony, Campion went out of her way to note that she was competing against five men, a situation she claimed the Williams sisters would never find themselves in on the tennis court.
“I’d also just like to give my love out to my fellow — the guys, the nominees,” she said with a laugh, referring to Paul Thomas Anderson (“Licorice Pizza”), Kenneth Branagh (“Belfast”), Guillermo del Toro (“Nightmare Alley”), Steven Spielberg (“West Side Story”) and Denis Villeneuve (“Dune”).

Well, when Serena and the other female tennis players PLAY the same amount of sets that the men endure in the HOT BLAZING Sun to win a match, then I can have respect for her (even though I find her to be a whining attention getter on and off the court).

If these women want to play like the guys, then they have to be on the tennis court in the HOT BLAZING Sun for 3 SETS to win a match, not 2 sets. They DO NOT deserve to make the same amount of money until this happens. If you want to be EQUAL, then you need to stop your whining and play matches for 3.5 hours (sometimes) like the men have to do, instead of a little bit over an hour.
It was just a joke….don’t be so woke. Is light heartedness now banned from these ceremonies?
