Sahih Muslim (20:4696) – “the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: ‘One who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or determination) for Jihad died the death of a hypocrite.'”
Quran (9:73) – “O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be unyielding to them; and their abode is hell, and evil is the destination.”
Quran (9:88) – “But the Messenger, and those who believe with him, strive and fight with their wealth and their persons: for them are (all) good things: and it is they who will prosper.”
Quran (2:244) – “Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things.”
Quran (25:52) – “Therefore listen not to the Unbelievers, but strive against them with the utmost strenuousness with it.”
Quran (61:4) – “Surely Allah loves those who fight in His cause” Religion of Peace, indeed!
Quran also promises the most severe of punishments for those who believe in one part of the Quran, but not the other.
Quran (2:85) – “Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest? Then what is the recompense of those who do so among you, except disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.”
Quran (18:26) – “Allah… makes none to share in His Decision and His Rule”
Quran (5:44) – “Whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed is among the disbelievers.”
Quran (66:9) – “O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern with them. Hell will be their home, a hapless journey’s end.”
A government run by “true” Muslims is a theocracy. Anything less, including democracy or secularism, is a sign of apostasy. This is how it was understood by Muhammad, his companions, and by the terrorists of today. This is why terrorists feel justified in their fight for an Islamic state.

That’s a warning from Allah to those who refuse to fight, that they will be punished with Hell. To answer your question, in reality it is not appropriate, in fact it is against the law. But for Islam yes! In fact fighting is prescribed for Muslims. Allah says:
“Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.” – Quran (2:216)
“And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion is all for Allah” – Quran (8:39)
“And let not those who disbelieve suppose that they can outstrip (Allah’s Purpose). Lo! they cannot escape. Make ready for them all thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy.” – Quran (8:59-60)
“Those who believe, and have left their homes and striven with their wealth and their lives in Allah’s way are of much greater worth in Allah’s sight. These are they who are triumphant.” – Quran (9:20)
This is how it was understood by Muhammad’s companions and by the Islamic terrorists of today. Not only do they know that verses of Jihad are more numerous and authoritative, they hold the entire Quran to be the eternal and literal word of Allah… and this is what often makes them so dangerous.

@most.hxted902 I believe Muslims should NOT be hurt. Westerners generally have no problem with this, having shown remarkable restraint in the wake of devastating terrorist attacks. However, it should not be underestimated that being a Muslim does not make one a terrorist or a bad person and anyone who does that is morally wrong. Muslims should not be hated or harassed. The Muslims I know are not terrorists. Most likely, their interests in life are similar to those who have the same ambitions for their children. They should not be shunned, persecuted, or disrespected just because of their religion. Prejudging individuals by their belief identity is not only unethical, it is patently irrational, because belief identity reveals nothing about a person. Each individual should be judged only by their own words and actions. They do not deserve to be bothered which they themselves may not understand well or take all that seriously. Even if there is no such thing as moderate Islam it does not mean that there are no Muslim moderates. Yes, there are Muslims who take issue with these aspects of Islamic theology, but that doesn’t change what Islam is. Although most Muslims are decent people, the religion itself always has a way of bringing the radicals along with it. The radicals then infest and influence the mainstream and the rest of society pays the cost.
The key to stopping Islam is education. The more that is known about this 7th century religion, the less appeal it has in today’s world. Islamic teachers actually know this, which is why they hide behind censorship and book banning in the Muslim world, and desperate appeals for political correctness and multiculturalism in the West. Islamic organizations, such as CAIR, often rely on blatant falsehoods to trick others into dropping their defenses. I understand that there is no reason to put Islam beyond critical analysis, or that Muslims are terrorists, simply on the basis of their religion. Although Islamic law poses a threat to almost every liberal value that is respected in free countries, especially in the West. Learn as much as you can about why Islam is dangerous. Understand the history. Find out how thousands of people can do atrocious things every year ostensibly in the name of Islam and Allah, while a billion other Muslims don’t seem to care much about it.
