comparing an individual sport to a team sport shows me that the dude on the left is not having a clue that tennis is much more mentally demanding than team sports

They have a seat at the table? Lol – then give them 50% of the profits. What’s the stat? Tennis players get about 18% of a grand slam’s profits? Those are slim margins and then they still have to go and “defend” points. The ATP thinks nothing about the longevity of players. If tennis players play for themselves then they deserve to opt out of playing marquee events without penalty points or losing out on prize money. Why does there even have to be mandatory events? And the basketball comparison is just insane. Tennis players have to play around the world, basketball players are just a short flight or bus ride from their next game. They burn through extraordinary amounts of cash to have their teams travel with them.

Sounds like grumpy old men complaining about soft young generation. In what other sport is an athlete asked to play at 4AM, alone, without teammates? Also the physicality of tennis has increased exponentially since Courier’s time.

Exactly. They don’t have substitutions like in team sports. They are working very hard by themselves the whole
match and sometimes very poor conditions like 1 AM or extremely hot, extreme high humidity and high air pollution like in Shanghai.
